saudade
"Saudade" is an untranslatable portuguese word that refers to the feeling of yearning for, missing something or someone. This booklet was made with screenshots of messages sent to or by my friends and family during the Covid-19 period, where isolation made saudade a continuous, omnipresent feeling. The texts were organized chronologically and as if the conversations were happening in the time period of a day. The distance between each message is relative to the time that passed between one and the next, and the size of the zine is the same size as my phone’s display. The cover, a screenshot of my blocked screen, shows the time with repetitive numbers. It is said, in Brazil, that if one sees the time with repetitive numbers, someone somewhere is thinking of you—and maybe is feeling some saudade. The black backcover is the phone’s screen locked, after all messages have been read.
